Cristian Arias Vicencio

Areas of Practice

Mr. Arias advises clients in criminal law matters, including defense and litigation in economic and white-collar crimes, as well as in highly complex administrative and civil procedures.

Experience

Mr. Arias has primarily specialized in criminal law, also participating in highly complex civil and administrative punitive procedures. He has become known as an expert in criminal proceedings both in his practice and in his teaching activities.

In the private sector he has served as a criminal and litigation specialist for various law firms. In the public area, he has developed an extensive career as a litigator, beginning his career as chief attorney at the Legal Assistance Corporation, and later as a criminal attorney for the State Defense Council. Mr. Arias also participated in the creation of the Public Criminal Defense Office as Head of Research, among other leadership roles.

Academic Activities and Distinctions

In the academic area, Mr. Arias has taught undergraduate litigation courses and graduate criminal procedure courses. He teaches several courses for the Judicial Academy and has participated in numerous litigation courses dictated for professionals in both the private and the public sector.

Currently, he participates as an active contributing member of the Center for the Study of Justice of the Faculty of Law of Universidad de Chile, both in the teaching and in the research department.

Recently, he co-authored in the publication "The appeal for annulment in criminal matters. Jurisprudence of the Supreme Court. Years 2001 – 2013”, Center for the Study of Justice, January 2015 .

Publications

Has published various works in numerous national Journals, such as the Journal of Studies of Justice (Revista de Estudios de la Justicia) of the Law Faculty of Universidad de Chile.
